Right now I’m listening to the sublime Bjork’s version of Gloomy Sunday but I’m not yet suicidal. Bakit ba kasi favorite background music to ng mga suicidal? Bjork’s way of singing style, as always, is more chilling than the song itself. Or maybe I am more hypnotized by Bjork’s voice that the reason I’m not giving enough focus to the lyrics of the song itself.

Ayan pinapakinggan ko naman ang naman ang version ni Billie Holiday ng kanta. Panalo din ang boses nya. Hers is more like relaxing, bereft of any vocal complications. Nice yung intro. But this time I’m able to give more focus to the lyrics. As to how I’ve understand it, the song is about a girl (pwede ding guy) who wanted to join her (his) paramour in the after life. Just a piece of advice, never ever think of playing this song if you’ve just lost a love one or if you’re broken hearted because a rather depressing piece of music. Perfect ang recipe ng kanta: depressing instrumental arrangement(or whatever you call it), sad lyrics, lethargic manner of singing (or something like it. I just don’t know how to put it), soothing voice. A perfect recipe for a perfect death song. Hahahaha! I kinda like it. Attractive sya to me dahil sa nakaattach na “mystery” ng kanta (dulot ng kasaysayan nya) at maganda ang versions ng dalawang singers ang napakinggan ko.

Hay naku! Before I ever thought of taking away my own life, had immediately played regina spektor’s fidelity. Mahirap na. *wink*

"..we felt the imprisonment of being a girl, the way it made your mind active and dreamy and how you end up knowing what colors went together. We knew the girls were really women in disguise, that they understood love, and even death, and that our job was merely to create the noise that seemed to fascinate them."

-The Virgin Suicides(1999)
