blame singin’ in the rain for my latest addiction: old movies. for some odd reasons i am drawn to the demeanor of the early actors and the way they deliver even a simplest “hello” sophistically. oh, those were the days where actors really can act! and when i say actors I mean ACTORS (talented individuals from the theater, beulaville, sarswela¸ among others), and not just some overnight superstars propelled to stardom by some dumb reality show who don’t even know the difference of acting sad from acting constipated (déjà vu anyone? i think I’d ranted this already in one of my previous posts). apart from this, watching a black&white moving picture is an amazement to me. i don’t know, nostalgia maybe. but how come? i wasn’t even gestated when those movies premiered (and i doubt parents where even conceived then). maybe i’m being nostalgic to my past life.haha!!
i had splurged on two audrey hepburn starrer, sabrina and breakfast at tiffany’s, singin’ in the rain (a musical with a girl sounding like karen walker of will&grace), casablanca (as time goes by), citizen kane (been wanting to see this for ages), and rebel without a cause (i never realized i’ll be in love at first sight to james dean). unfortunately hollywood has this sudden impulse to restore, colorize and remaster almost all old flicks exist. don’t they even know their real beauty lies on the very elements they are trying to alter? though i appreciate the sound remastering. i had hard time understanding sabrina and breakfast at tiffany’s some years ago because audrey hepburn is like incantating some obscure mantra. i hope they haven’t touched the visuals nevertheless. i like audrey more in monochromatic, makes her less of a beauty (well in any case she’s still looked like aphrodite personified). thank goodness my copies of sabrina and citizen kane are in black&white. yipee!!!
speaking of audrey hepburn, i’m done watching sabrina. i never realized i would appreciate linnus’ character (played by humphrey bogart, a queer combination for a name i know) more years after i first saw the movie. how could a teenager, whose idea of handsomeness are the likes of justin timberlake and prince william, be fascinated to an eddie de mesa look-alike. Not that eddie de mesa is not cute, as ma’am chicky once said, everything is relative. it’s age gap, that's all. nevertheless linnus’ character is rather charming, more charming than sam milby in person and on screen combined. he has this certain magnetism that , regardless of his tough looks, one can’t help but pray she’s sabrina dancing “cheek to cheek” with him in a dim- lit tennis court. hahaha!!! of course audrey hepburn was, as always, stunning, and extremely skinny. God I wish I had her waist. she’s might be wearing corset for all I know, nevertheless her still has the waist all girls would die for. hahaha!!!
linnus (humphey bogart), sabrina (audrey hepburn), and david (william holden)
killer waistline
i wonder, is she wearing a bra underneath her black (im not quite sure.its monochromatic remember?) overalls in one of the scenes? her boobs are so tiny and they looked like mine with the brassiere off. hahaha!! but i’m still very much envious of the waist. gah!!!!
