eraserheads, undoubtedly, is one of the few rock bands in the country that was able to leave an indelible mark in pinoy pop culture and was able to transcend their generation. though i didn't grow up listening to their songs unlike most of my friends (my parents are hardcore frank senatra fans and i don't have an older brother or sister with musical sensibility), their songs had played a significant part in my college life soundtrack... i remembered telling nea that i wanted to be serenaded with one of their hit songs ligaya..and anne used to say that minsan is our "boarding house theme song" when she, ja, rachel and i were still living together in manila during our first year in college..huling el bimbo, spolarium, wag mo ng itanong, alapaap and para sa masa had always been my consistent LSS for some unknown reason during my grueling finals days.. and their songs had been on the background when i was writing my thesis... hayy...those were the days...
but i think seeing all the eheads together is not really meant to happen..at least at this time..ang dami kasing hadlang...but then again, enough na siguro yung maktia sila ng dalawang oras na kumanta ng mga awiting tumatak na sa ilang henerasyon at marahil tatatak pa sa mga susunod. pero magkaroon man uli sila ng bonggang bonggang follow up reunion concert, i will definitely going to see it.
here's a the news on what happened on their much awaited concert yesterday.
and what could have happened if the unfortunate collapse of ely didn't happen? read here. got this form justin's multiply. haaayy..i reckon it should have been such an ultraelectromagnetic night...
*the band got their name from a david lynch 1977 film, the eraserhead..

two scenarios, one conclusion.
**
3rd year high school, jaica builing, social studies class with sir florentino..
sir florentino: o sige, saan nanggaling ang pulbura?
(the entire class fell silent. "china!" i thought.)
classmate: (confidently uttered) SER, SA BULAKAN!
sir florentino: (forcefully hurled his omnipresent folder slide on the floor then walked out of the room)
**
1st year graduate school, faculty center, theories of international relations class with sir ronas..
sir ronas; remember who said "knowledge is power"?
me:(silently thinking) was it ernie baron?nah!but who was it?shoot, i can't remember!
classmate: ernie baron..
sir ronas: (as if hearing nothing) francis bacon...
me: (suppressed laugh)
**
I therefore conclude that when students' attention is starting wane, they are susceptible to outrageous ideas. hehehehe

after almost two months of waiting and almost two months of irking and bombarding the kuya in the admin with irritated inquiries, my ID had finally been released. nasira daw kasi yung machine kaya natagalan. akala ko next sem na nila balak irelease ang mga ka-ID-han. yupi!!! unfortunate for me, i had a "bad hair"-slash-basang sisiw day during the photo session so i looked as if i was sick with typhus in the picture. hehehe...
i am, once again, officially a student. humanda kayo mga kuya kundoktor! hehehe.

being fed up with all the overwhelming stuff i was reading for my term paper, i mindlessly typed "jessica zafra" on the OPAC one lazy afternoon at the main library when i was supposed to search for some books on post- cold war cuban-russian diplomatic relations. OPAC gave me 9 or 12 searches, most of them were either loaned or i've already read. but one of which (chicken pox for the soul) i haven't read or even seen before in any bookshops so i decided to borrow it. sa ibang schools, harry potter at nancy drew ang idea ng "leasure readings" na makikita sa kanilang library, pero sa UP intelektwal pa din ang mga bababasahing pampalipas oras na inooffer ng main lib. hehehe. as always, this chicken soup for the soul parody is sarcastically humorous yet very sensible. i'm sharing some of the books most profound thoughts and i hope this could help you in your daily endeavors. hehehe
- Greasy food might not be good for your body, but it does wonders for the soul. A healthy diet may prolong your life, but what would you have to live for? what is the point of living to a hundred if you have to subsist on bland food? one may as well die of boredom.
-Whining is a form of manipulation. People will give anything to make you shut up. (this is the art i must learn to master)
-Complaining is fun.
- The basic difference betwen men and women is this. When men see a naked woman, they shut up. When women see a naked man, they automatically laugh.
- The uglier the guy, the greater the probability that he thinks he's God's gift to women. (amen!)
- All good men are either taken or gay. (amen again!)
- Between you (in this case, me.haha!) and an insipid girl who is easy to control, a guy will choose the insipid girl who is easy to control.
- Fashion is cyclical. This means that double-knit-bell-bottoms will return to torment you.
- Someday extraterrestrials poking in the rubble of our civilization will discover fragments of pop culture. Then shall Barry Manilow be enshrined as a great artist.
- Censorship is a stopper up your butt. It causes the crap to back up into your brain, turning you into a moron.
- The question is not why fools fall in love. It is expected of them. When "smart" people fall in love- that's the problem.
- The trouble with "mutual understanding" is that it often turns out to be a unilateral delusion.
life changing, aren't they?hehehe...long live the queen of universal domination!!

i'm coming out!
i want the world to know
i gotta let it show!
--China singing to the world
i was awestrucked by the beijing olympics opening ceremony! it was breathtaking! i wasn't even surpised to see scores of performers doing tai chi, kung fu and chinese peking opera dance in perfect synchrony. there are hundreds or even thousands of them and i'm not exaggerating! oh well its china we're talking about here.hahahaha!! seriously, i was having goosebumps the whole time. it's like watching farewell my concubine and hero with loads of fireworks display and computer effects. galing lang!!
china didn't just flaunt its rich culture and history, it was also able to successfully display its wealth. this years olympics is not just an athletics event, it is a political statement. this is china's idea of "show of force" because brandishing of missles and nuclear weapon arsenal is sooo passe. china is now banking on soft powers to assert their global might and there is no way it could be stopped. tuloy tuloy na to hanggang sa maging siopao at pancit bihon na ang staple food sa buong mundo! wahahahahaha!!! peace :)
after this "coming out party" of china, what now can the world expect from this awakened dragon? we'll find out soon, after the shindig.*wink*
P.S. chinese taipei (taiwan) sent a delegation to the beijing olympics and as i've observed they are warmly welcomed. does this mean that china is finally accepting taiwan's claim to statehood and separation from the main land?omg!!! this olympics is indeed a political statement.

during the 1996 atlanta olympics i religiously watched the gymnastics event because of the ukrainian female gymnast who looks like harry potter (or so i thought and besides harry potter is non-existence then, or so i thought).bottom line is she's soo cute even a straight girl will find her attractive. i was hoping then that he's really a boy disguising himself as a girl just to qualify for the event, but that of course is wishful thinking. but really she looks better if she's a guy.
my point being? the beijing olympics is the biggest thing to happen this year next to my birthday, the chinese new year and the premiere of the dark knight. and the last thing all the people in the world should do is to dismiss it as mere "coming out" event for china, to show to the world that they are rich enough to host a monumental event like the olympics, (though it is must likely true) because it is rather preposterous. for once let's give ourselves some break from terrorist paranoia and have some wholesome fun! hence, i urge all of you to join the olympics bandwagon and serve kikiam and dimsum for dinner. go philippine team! kahit kinse lang kayo, go pa din! aja!!
on a serious note, i am rooting for our diving athletes, especially sheila mae perez. she reminds me of the ukranian gymnast i mentioned earlier. i still am hoping that she's a he. the gymnast that is. hehehe...

for the record, i never and will never join the "emo" bandwagon. i will never cry like crazy or slash my wrist just to get attention :)
as told by ginger had always been a part of my adolescence. and until now, that i am already an adult (finally i've accepted it), i still can't get enough it. in one of its episodes, ginger entered her poem "and she was gone" in a competition hoping her work gets published. unfortunately, it didn't.
the video is the last part of the episode, and they put music to the poem and turned it into a song. it kinda have an emo feel because the general mood of the scene is really depressing. but as i remembered it, ginger didn't even try to kill her self or rant that she's unloved on this episode..hahahahaha!.
i miss ginger foutley.
And She Was Gone Poem, by Ginger
She chose to walk alone.
Though others wondered why.
Refused to look before her,
Kept eyes cast upwards,
Towards the sky.
She didn't have companions.
No need for earthly things.
Only wanted freedom,
From what she felt were puppet strings.
She longed to be a bird.
That she might fly away.
She pitied every blade of grass
For planted they would stay.
She longed to be a flame.
That brightly danced alone.
Felt jealous of the steam
That made the air its only home.
Some say she wished too hard.
Some say she wished too long.
But we awoke one autumn day
To find that she was gone.
Some say she wished too hard.
Some say she wished too long.
But we awoke one autumn day
To find that she was gone.
The trees, they say, stood witness.
The sky refused to tell.
But someone who had seen it
Said the story played out well.
She spread her arms out wide.
Breathed in the break of dawn.
She just let go of all she held...
And then she was gone.
