i doubt the upheaval in burma will subside one of these days and i think it will take another 45 years or more to oust the military junta.as much as the world wants another peaceful people power in burma, the success of Edsa 1 is rather diffucult to achieve. for one, the military junta in burma is a real militar junta, their leader being a real general and still in command of their armed forces. the marcos' rule however is just a pseudo-military rule, wherein a civilian, and not a member of the military, holds the highest position in the land. and since it is merely a phony militar government, it was easy for the armed forces' highest officials then to withdraw there support to marcos when his government was already at the verge of collapse. as long as the armed forces is under the government's wing, it will be very difficult to overthrow it since it still holds the capacity to coerce those who they see as threats to its existence.
i admire the efforts of those who braved the streets of rangoon and staged a peaceful call for democratic government though. nonetheless my commentaries are merely a pragmatic look to the present scenario in burma. but as long as aung san suu kyi is within the territories of burma and still is very much adamant on there ideologies, her comrades and the people of burma will always be inspired to fight for the real democracy they deserve.
