To Where My Soul Rest

I am currently reading Haruki Murakami’s Kafka on the Shore and as always I am transported to another world where reality is just a one possibility. Unintentionally, Murakami’s novels never fail to give me momentary escape from the noise and hustle of my own miniscule world. Is not that I am depressed or anything that’s why I need escape. In fact, I do not need one. Let’s just say that whenever I flip each page of his books, another part of me unfolds on my very own eyes; that seemingly insignificant things are beginning to have meaning and that I am able to comprehend life for the very first time. I am still half way through the book; still unable to do marathon reading since my lifestyle wont let me do it. Nonetheless, savouring every iota of his thoughts in such a languid fashion is still much more fulfilling and revealing.

As always, Mukami had given me another epiphany. This time, it’s rather morbid. One of the characters had mentioned that in a person’s life he/she does not have control on where he/she will be born, but he has control though on where he/she will die. Then it hit me, where do I actually want to die? Or maybe, let me question rephase the question. Should I die, where do I want my soul to go? Or given a chance to have my soul leave my living body temporarily, where do I want it to stay? I only have one answer in mind: in UP Diliman.

Indeed I have spent the most important four years of my life in UP Manila, and that my stay in UPM had made me the person that I am right now, and that UPM had been and will always be my home away from home. But I should say I left my soul in UP Diliman and I want it to become one of its denizens. Without a doubt my stay in UPD is rather brief, one academic year as of yet to be exact. I went there armed with a pragmatic design to establish my life. No more, definitely no less. Yet I got more than what I expected to receive from my stay there. Most of the epiphanies I had in my life had happened there. For one full year I was there all by myself. I have no friends around, I do not know any one, I have no idea what to expect. In other words, I was left to my own devices. For someone who had been very much dependent all her life to the people around her for almost everything, from choice of food for lunch to a choice of perspective, being alone is a breath of fresh air. Furthermore, I was in UPD during the time when my disposition is in disarray. I have no where to go and I have no option to go back from where I’ve been. I was lost in the void of uncertainty. But it was my choice to be alone to begin with and it was my choice to find life’s direction in an unfamiliar place. So I had and will never have regrets.

It was solitude, not loneliness. With this solitude, I found silence within. With this silence I found inner peace. With this inner peace, I found myself. Upon finding myself, I reckon I was able to see through my soul. For someone who is always so loud and quite used to live life in a hurry, my UPD experience had force me to slow down and contemplate. It made me look at life in a different perspective. Hence, Murakami made me realize that should I let my soul wander I will never let it stray away from the place that made it become more real and more complete. For in this place I will always be in eternal bliss.

birthdays had always been a bittersweet moment for me since I got on my 20s. It's like every year life is giving me a harsh reality check; that i am no longer a naive teenager always dependent to my parent for financial needs, emotional affirmation and other major life decisions. to be honest, i've been soo depressed for a while since i turned 20. Quarter life crisis, should i say? who would not get depressed anyway? i was already on my 20s, just finished college with no decent job, was struggling in graduate school and has no love life. i never felt alone. i never felt lost.

but now i can proudly say i got passed that stage already. though i think it is rather odd, i am very much satisfied with my life. no words can explain how elated i feel. merely uttering words of thanks to heavens for all the blessings i have received is not enough. i am already 24. i may be older now, but i never felt more secure. i never felt happier. i never felt so beautiful. now i look forward for the coming years. i am ready to face post-quarter life crisis with a wide smile and extremely long eyelash extension :)

would you believe that for someone who is very much concerned with the number of sleep she is getting ever morning (im a nocturnal being for almost a year now), i only got roughly 3 hours of sleep last monday because i watched the grammy awards. under normal circumstances i will definitely gnore the grammy; i'm not that huge of a music fan anyway. but the performace of sir elton john and lady gaga of "your song" made me watch it!! or at least the first few hours of it. waaaaa!!! i sooo love lady gaga now. oh well, i always have. same with katy perry (san galing to?!). i'm a closet fan :D

another reason why i think the hours i didn't spend in dreamland that day was some hours well spent is because of pink's breathtaking acrobatics. she was virtually spinning midair while singing beautifully. i was in awe. i swear! i looooveeeee pink!!

AROUND (MY OWN CHAOTIC) WORLD IN 24 HOURS

Had team breakfast at 6am after shift with some of my teammates (the others were on VTO) at dencios since we’ll be dispersed to different teams starting Saturday. We’re going to have new teammates, new manager and new TLs. Bagong pakikisama na naman to. I’m so gonna miss my first team in ETIS. Well then, like what I always say, to my now former teammates, I see you when I see you :D

At 9am I dashed to UP Diliman to buy some DVDs and meet up with Ditch. Since I was still wearing my uber-preppy polo shirt from work, I opted to drop by Maroons and get some old fashioned UP shirt. I got a maroon colored, medium-sized baby tee with “Mga Iskolar ng Bayan” emblazoned across the bottom part of the shirt right under oble’s printed image. It’s nice to reconnect with my roots. Hehehe.

Anyway, I was supposed to have my UP pilgrimage that same day as well (visit CSSP, UP Main Lib, Sunken Garden, book stalls at AS walk and at the Coop, though I was only able to drop by the DVD shop at SC) but I got there rather late and I still have some film viewing adventure with Ditch. So off we go to Rob Galleria to watch Wanted: Border. It was about an aswang landlady (played by the sublime Rosanna Roces). That is all I know about the movie though but I trust Ditch’s movie picks. But the Roman and Greek gods seemed to have conspired against the two of us because when we got there, Wanted: Border was not screening till 5:00pm! There was like a double screening in Cinema 8, and they’re screening Paranormal Activity when we got there. So we have no choice. We both don’t want to watch 2010 and we both have no plans whatsoever of seeing New Moon. Not in this lifetime! And so we set to Cinema 8 and watch Paranormal Activity instead. Besides, one of my teammates was watching it in her iPod this morning before we go to dencios and she seemed very terrified. I reckon I’ll somehow enjoy it.

And I was right, I enjoyed it actually. In a comic level that is! Haha!! It was like the funniest movie I’ve seen since Bruno. I think if it was only in the Philippines, the only rational and the most practical way to deal with the protagonists’ dilemma is to call their friendly neighborhood albularyo to administer the every so mystical tawas to put an end to the torments they are getting from some kapre or duwende. Hahahahaha!! In scenes where all of the audience should have been screaming there lungs out, I was hysterically laughing.

In the theater, it was just me and ditch and some Korean kids watching the movie. I bet they enjoyed it too. Hope I understand what they we’re saying though. I bet they “enjoyed” it the same way I did. Or maybe not. Perhaps I just have this tendency to chuckle while watching pathetically contrived horror movies which some people might not share. Hehehe.

In any case, amidst that “Paranormal Activity” fiasco, I genuinely had fun. It had been forever since I last talked with someone who I share the same passion with. We talked about films and books over lunch and I should say, that had been the most sensible conversation I had with someone apart from my brother since I started working again. Yes Kuya Ditch, I will try to finish 1984 and give you my unabashed opinion on the last part of the book!

I like the way you greet “Good Morning!” and flash that reassuring smile every time the day (or should I say night) starts. I like it whenever you smile awkwardly as if you’re just 16. I like the way your presence is felt whenever you’re around. I like the way you dress up. I like way you speak, as if you knew nothing but you actually do. I like it when you kid around, though no one notices. I like it whenever I confuse you with all my questions especially when you’re so busy. I don’t usually relish it, but since it is you I do not mind. I like it every time you ask for something; you know with you’re rather cute coercion I will always give in. I like the fact that I am infatuated to you. It’s been a while since I actually like someone. I like you but I should not. I know hindi tayo talo, but I can’t help it. You’re so irresistible. Although it is sad I like the fact that I’ll never see you that much for like heaven knows how long. That might curtail this obsessive tendency. Hope to work with you again someday. ONE YEAR HENCE

My name is Febbie Anne Flores , a soda addict. And I’ve been sober for a year now but I still am longing for a glass of ice cold Coca Cola or Sprite whenever I eat pizza or adobong mani. I still drool every time I hear a bottle of soda being popped open, giving off an enticing aroma of carbonated liquid. Just writing about it now makes me drool. Waaaaaa!!!! I really cannot believe I was able to endure this. It took me a while before I could actually appreciate iced tea (pasintabi kay ditch). You may be laughing now, but this is such a big deal for me. For someone who had been substituting water with soda since childhood, being able to endure not taking even just a sip of it for almost a year now is such an achievement.

For how long I will remain soda sober, I do not know. My self-imposed rehabilitation is not a whimsical endeavor though. I do not intend take a gulp of Coke or Royal unless otherwise I’m done with graduate school and/or I am fluent with French already. I need a rather strong motivation to accomplish either or both of these. If I will not be able to realize any one of these, I have to be soda-free for the rest of my life and that is just as worst as reclusion perpetua for me.

effective monday i am no longer an outsourced employee. i will be reporting to work to the other side of the wall (literally and figuratively speaking); to THE company. excited? not really since i will still be doing the same thing in there. the only difference is the workload and the "prestige". but i never expected that i will be transitioned that fast. for one, i wasn't the most outstanding agent in the team and i still screw up big time most of the time. am i happy? sure do!! my schedule is extremely convenient though it's still on a night shift and i will be on the same team with my friends. at least i have something to look forwad to, apart from other work-related bonuses that is.

watched [REC] with ditch and i should say it was a very good way to start watching movies again. aylabit!!!hahaha!!! you see since i started my series 7 and series 63 review, i didn't get a chance to actually see a movie and enjoy it. except for harry potter that this! hindi dapat palagpasin yun :) . FYI: the hollywood movie quarantine is ripped off from this spanish horror.

you may leave my blog promto if you're already getting fed up with my gael garcia bernal-related posts. hahaha!!! it's just that i feel lazy updating this blog (needs to prioritize things hehehe) and the only thing that i was able to came across whenever i take a rather brief break from my hectic schedule were those related to my beloved. so there, i was able to find the trailer for his 2009 film mammoth. i've read somewhere that some parts of the film was actually shot in the philippines (in ilocos i reckon) and that a significant part of the story revolves around the relationship of gael's daugther to her Filipina nanny. ay marami na siguro ang nagsisipagtaasan ang kilay dyan i'm sure. pero i want to look at it as a realistic look to the substantial effect of globalization to the lives of many across the globe. hay naku, basta pelikula ni gael may tiwala ako dyan. he's one of the few actors who i think never fails to choose his films very well. if it's gael, it most be good..hahaha!!parang seiko films lang. oh well, tama na nga yan. enjoy the trailer :)

i am pissed. really, really, really pissed. i should be studying today dahil ang Series 63 exam ko ay this week na. pero anu ginawa ko? i went to Rob Manila para makipagkita sa mga tao.. ilan ang dumating? tatlo.. ilan ang inimbitahan? marami. pagod ako, pati na rin ang mga kasama ko. bente kwatro oras akong gising nung sabado dahil may mga kailangang gawin. my head is pounding dahil sa kakulangan sa tulog. tinatamad sana ako tumungo dahil nga kailangan ko mag-aral, doon kasi nakasalalay ang paglago ng aking karera sa kumpanya. pero tumuloy ako. bakit? baka kasi dumating sila at ako lang ang wala. nakakahiya naman. pero nagkamali ako.sana man lang may kahihiyan na magsabi ang mga nilalang na hindi sila makakatungo mga 3 oras bago man lang ang tinakdang kitaan. para diba hindi na ako nag-abalang nagpunta at napagsabihan yung ibang wala ding tuloy na wag na pumunta.

oo, masama talaga ang loob ko.masamang masama. una sa lahat, napagastos ako. sana ipinambili ko na lang ng sapatos yun, natuwa pa ko. o kaya sana naipanglibre ko pa un kay mon o kaya naipangsine pa namin yun nila tatay, nakapagbonding pa kami ng pamilya ko na halos minsanan ko na lang makita. ikalawa, isinakripisyo ko ang iilang oras at panahon ko para sa aking sarili para makasama lang ang ilang mga taong sarili rin lang ang iniintindi. ayos lang naman sa akin yung hindi sumipot, pano ba naman yung magsabi agad para hindi nakakaabala. umasa ako, pero gaya ng inaasahan binigo na naman. sa susunod, matututo na akong intindihin na rin lang ang sarili ko kaysa sa iba. masyado na yata akong mabait kaya parating okay lang. nakakapagod na.

going home at four in the morning has its advantages. for one, you get to skip the stressful traffic hoopla the night before and the impending rush hour in the morning. and also, i get to listen to soothing music while thinking of my (well actually, my parent's) comfy bed and the sun is just beginning to take a peek. have i already mentioned that i love mornings? when dusk is just about to materialized and everything seemed to be so tranquil and fresh. haaaaaaayyyyy.... simply things of life i never fail to enjoy :)

my fascination to mornings was only made even better by music, great music at that. and natasha bedingfield and cat power just set the mood for me. i feel like as if i'm in some sort to trance whenever i listen to their songs. i dig of natasha bedingfield's rendition of chasing cars and somewhere only we know. and i am very fascinated of cat power's version of wonderwall. makes me want to close my eyes and think of nothing but nirvana. for someone who had been living a rather erratic lifestyle for the past four or five months, their songs are helping me cope with the stress ridden life i chose.

it's positive. i never, and will never ever, outgrown my obsession with the "boy who lived". turns out my dilemma the other day wasn't really a dilemma after all..

i love the latest harry potter film!!! everything was perfect! seems like the movie had perfectly evolved from a pre- adolescent flick to a serious piece of reel entertainment.. i love it! i love it! i love it!! the script was suited for the target audience, the lines were absolutley witty, the acting was sublime (i love the fact that draco malfroy's moral dilemma was very palpable even without his signature snarl and vile dialogues). for a harry potter fan, the film didn't disappoint me at all. gad i love it!!!pwede na sila magtapat ng lord of the rings this time..hehehe.. in your face twilight!!!hahahah!!

i took the series 63 exam this morning and guess what, i failed!!wahahahaha!!i got 68%, it's just 1 question away from the passing score of 70%..wahahahaha!and why, you might ask, am i still laughing like crazy? this day is like a deja vu of my first series 7 exam which, as you all know, i failed as well.(disclamer: I was able to redeem my pride a month after this disgrace. hehehe)

before i took off to makati this, tatay saw me out of the house. when i first took my s7, he also did that. last saturday, instead of reviewing for s63, i went somewhere else. the saturday before i first took s7, mon and i went to quiapo and i wasn't able to review thoroughly as well. when i got out of the testing center this morning, it was raining like hell, just like when i took s7 the first time. so instead of just lamenting on another failure, i can't help but laugh. life really has a very absurd sense of humor. you're not suppose to understand it yet; all you have to do is laugh along with its jokes. hahaha!!

and so, call me now the retake girl. haha!! at least i already passed series7, which is more important. sabi ko nga, ang series 7 ay parang college degree. dapat sya ipasa para gumanda ang career. ang series63, parang grad school naman. pwedeng meron, pwedeng wala. pero mas maganda kung meron :) oh well, there's always a second time for everything. hahaha!! wish me luck a month from now :)

i finally passed the Series 7 exam and i am now a licensed stock broker!!hahaha!! i passed the exam almost two weeks ago but i was just waiting for my "bragging rights" in the FINRA website before i decided to finally reveal it here.

well my second try was really more difficult and i really didn't expect to pass anymore. the truth is, my first exam was way easier than my retake. i remembered getting loads of questions in my first exam about retirement, annuity, mutual funds and all the other topics that will not do not require the aide of your friendly calculator. basta alam mo ang concept, pasok ka na!! but my second exam was like hell for someone who hate/loathe/despise numbers because most of my questions were on equity options, index options and margin.and as i've said, i really didn't expect to get the broker license on my second try. whew!! at least i'm done with the hardest part now.

i removed some info for security reasons and just so i don't get my butt out of the company. sayang ang lisensya. hehehe

thanks to everyone who had helped me with this endeavor. to my S7 trainers (anna, queen and jay) for giving me the opportunity to learn new things, to my product trainers (lenny and rai) for their extra tutorial time before our retake, and to my wavemates (teddy, irene, weng, trina and normand) for not whacking my head everytime i clarify something to them but i still am not getting it. thanks for the patience guys!! :) most importantly, i thank my God :)

anyway, i'm soo dying to watch blood the last vampire. just so you know, i have this obscure obsession with vampire movies, the likes of underworld and van helsing. (NOTE: i haven't seen the vampire chronicles yet and i extremely detest twilight and yes, i reckon van helsing is ACTUALLY a vampire movie). the thing about this film is that Jeon Ji-hyun, the girl from the korean "my sassy girl" (THE original version) is playing an ass-kicking, katana-brandishing vampire slayer!!isn't it great!!i'm sooo freakin excited!! this is bliss :) kaya lang sana japanese actor yung kinuha para consistent. nonetheless, my love for her obliterates my biases..hahaha!!

shet kahilera na ni mendoza si francois truffaut, david lynch, gus van sant, wong kar war, lars von tier at marami pang bigating pangalan sa larangan ng pelikula..hay...talk about bliss...i'm so happy..hindi man nasungkit ni brocka ang best director decades ago, at least sa aking lifetime i was able to witness this triumphant moment..congratulations, brilliante mendoza..NCCA, another national artist awardee.. pay attention :)

i'm soo goddamn exasperated with my self and the result of my s7 exam.the passing is freakin 70% and i only got a godforsaken 69%!!talk about tough luck.gosh!!right after i learned about the result i was sooo determined to take the retake, which will be a month from now. but being the fickle minded that i am, i am now trying to contemplate on welcoming other options. that is, if there's any. as much as i wanted to blame fate with this "misfortune" (see, we should have taken it tomorrow pero for some twisted humor of fate we we're informed wednesday just before the shift ends that we will be taking the exam thursday instead) i just can't and i WON'T. things happen for a reason, whatever it is i still have no idea yet.

as compared before, i am not totally bummed with it nor indifferent. usually, i just feel vey frustrated whenever things don't turn out my way. but this time, i just want to redeemd my self for like 2 seconds, but i am also being practical and kind of thinking to pursue other things. i still don't know yet.

mon and i were so ecstatic upon learning that four filipino films (three full length, one short) will be screened in cannes film festival this may!!my gaaaddddd!!!!!a single in competition film is more than enough, but four!!come on. the world of cinema is once again recognizing the talents of filipino filmmakers. the bernal-brocka era is here once again.the in-competition film will be brilliante mendoza's kinatay, director of last year's phillipines entry in cannes, serbis. mendoza will be competing with THE directors: quentin tarantino (my love), ang lee (not really a big fan), jane campion (i love her "the piano"), almodovar (kowtow, people.magbigay pugay)..

i think there's also a film feauring piolo pascual and THE rosanna roces. it for special screening i believe. kamusta naman yun!!!!!!!!!!!!god i wish i could attend cannes someday.. have to marry gael garcia bernal, quick!!hahaha..

naisip ko tuloy ngayon, maybe i should have stick with what i do best: talking a lot. kung nababayaran lang sana ang pagdada. naisip ko din tuloy, sa sobrang toxic ng buhay ko ngayon dahil sa mga stocks, bonds at mutual funds, napagtanto ko na siguro i would have excelled kung nasa law school ako. tutal mas madali pa din sa akin ang magmemorya at intindihin ang mga batas kahit pa na sabihing artipisyal din naman sila tulad ng mga pinoproblema ng numero

i am really having second thoughts on going to UP Fair this saturday. for one i have a date........with my PC and Greenpeace. it's valerntine's day remember? hahahaha!!seriously i feel a little guilty since i need to finished 2 term papers before mid march and i still need to finalize my greenpeace report due next thursday.. i am also running low in cash and i am saving up to purchased be kind rewind and sweetie dvds in my favorite shop at shopping. these are gonrdy and campion movies for crying out loud!!! but i badly want to see my friends too!!!its been a year since i last saw nea and miguel, that was also during the fair. besides i haven't have any contract with actual people for the past couple of days and i am beginning to have imaginary friends.wahahahahahuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhu....talk about moral dilemma..

Normally I will be pretty pissed off with all the publicity going on in our local media regarding the inauguration of an American president. For one I detest mass media ruckus. It’s so jologs that everybody makes sawsaw to the kaganapan even though they are not really kasali . hahahaha!!

But seriously, the event that will take place in Washington DC today will definitely have a significant historical impact to the proud existence of the US, the still undoutedly most powerful country in the world, and therefore the international community has to give its undivided attention to its new president's inauguration. Sure the United States had fell face down to the economic sludge just before 2008 ends and had hid its face behind lady liberty’s toga because of its shameful military adventurism in many parts of the globe, but this new guy named Barack Obama seem to carry the key that would lock away America’s worst nightmares for the past years. The Americans and the world have the highest expectation for this guy. All eyes are at him now and he is in a very precarious situation. He could be the best president the United States would very have and he will forge a scintillating legacy that will be celebrated for the next million of years. Or he could be, along with his predecessor, the president the United States wished they never had. Whatever may happen in the future, the only thing we can do right now is to speculate. Let’s just hope change will really come to Uncle Sam’s home.

And as for Filipinos, each of us must pray 1 million novenas for our own salvation in 2010. divine intervention is the only hope, since the US already have barack :)

since i started my life in solitude, i found an unlikely comfort in FM radio. when i was killing time at lola's library every morning, i only tuned in to morning radio shows such as good times with mo in magic 89.9 and tambalan in 90.7 love radio. but since i started going home late after my classes, i learned that i can still find enjoyment and detox remedy from FM radio with the brewrats show, hosted by dj tado, dj ramon (bautista) and dj angel (erning of strangebrew) in 99.5 RT.

at first you will think its a typical dumbass late night show hosted by drooling dumbasses since they are persistently inferring that they are (the DJs) are illiterate and hence only the illiterates listen to them. tado even keeps on commiting grammar error and makes no excuse whatsover about it. and they talk as if they are in a tagayan minus the pulutan. hahaha!! tunog manyak nga minsan si tado at ramon tapos si angel naman panay hirit lang ng "tama!" kaya parang mga lasing lang talaga sila. yet they really are not talking about nonsense all the time. their claim to illeteracy is merely a satire. since i started tuning in to them, they've already tackled numerous relevant and intelligent topics such as indie movies in the philippines, human rights, press freedom in campus, pinoy music and many more. they even had poety reading and radio drama, but the latter is more of a kalokohan. i think they are just presenting themeselves "uneducated" so that those who deemed themeselves "uneducated" too will listen to them and hence they will be able to extend to these people the knowledge that is being manipulated by the petiburgis (like myself). hehehe. besides, who will ever believe that ramon bautista is illiterate? eh prof sya sa UP. mukha lang sya adik minsan sa tv at sa radyo pero sabi ng friend ko magaling daw sya magturo.wahahahaahahahaha!!
